Grannies à Gogo has three new photo-illustrated travelogues ready to entertain both armchair and world
travelers on January 9th, 16th and 23rd. Presented by local travelers, the travelogues have proved to be very popular community events since 2011. The travelogues will be held in the Emerald Room at the Schubert Centre, 3505 30th Ave, Vernon. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. with the presentations starting at 2:00 p.m. Admission is $10.
On Friday, Jan.9, 2026, at 2:00 pm, Lloyd Davies will take us to Morocco, a land of many tastes and colors. Davies exclaims, “Riding camels through the sand dunes and spending a night in a tent under the darkest of skies were a few of the many highlights.” He will share photos of his and Janet’s part package guided tour and part seat-of-the-pants self-guided tour. The latter allowed these intrepid travelers to experience Morocco a bit differently than most. They spent three weeks traveling through Morocco dodging noisy market vendors, crazy drivers on city streets, transport trucks on icy mountain roads and donkeys and camels around oases in the Sahara.
On Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, at 2:00 pm, Ted and Marnie Melnyk will tickle our senses as they take us to both Belgium and Portugal. From canals and sobering visits to war memorial sites in Belgium to cliff coastlines, cobblestone streets and many stairs in Portugal; from Belgium chocolates and waffles, to Portuguese seafood of all kinds, we are promised a delightful second travelogue in our series of three Friday afternoon travelogues. Their trip was very much about finding joyful and sense satisfying moments in these two very different countries. If you remember the other travelogues Marni and Ted have presented for Grannies à Gogo, then you know that we are in for a treat.
On Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at 2:00 pm, join Evelyn LeRose, an intrepid traveller, as she presents our third travelogue. She will take us to the exotic island of Madagascar. Madagascar is a biodiversity hotspot and one of the world’s 17 megadiverse countries, with over 90% of its wildlife being endemic. Be prepared to be wowed!
All proceeds from the Grannies à Gogo Travelogues help to ease the lives of vulnerable Grandmothers in Sabie, South Africa who are caring for HIV/AIDS orphaned grandchildren. The funds help to provide various services including food packages, medical help and regular opportunities to socialize and enjoy hot lunches at the Ubuntu Centre in the township of Similie. The services are coordinated by our caring volunteer administrators.
