The Great Granny Revolution Documentary Film – Encore: 23 October, 2007
Organizers: Susan Fenner and Anne Clarke
The Canadian documentary film by Rooney productions, The Great Granny Revolution was a sell-out success at the official launch of Grannies à Gogo in June, 2007. So we brought it back for an encore screening. The film follows the story of the Wakefield Grannies and their partnership with South African grandmothers raising AIDS-orphaned grandchildren in Johannesburg, a story which parallels our experience with Sitabogogo in Sabie.
Once again Ann Dorval’s Trinity Drummers opened the evening at the Okanagan College Lecture Hall, and a visual display of enlarged photos portrayed the gogos and their families. A question & answer discussion with members of Grannies à Gogo followed the screening.
Update: September, 2008 Rooney Productions was invited to open the Tshwane Intercultural Film Festival in Pretoria, South Africa with The Great Granny Revolution; it received rave reviews.
