Come Travel With Us – Travelogues 2024

After a few years hiatus the ever popular travelogues are back!

The travelogues will be held at the Emerald Room in the Schubert Centre, 3505 30th Ave, Vernon. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. with the presentations starting at 2:00 p.m. Admission is $10.

On Friday, Jan.12, 2024, at 2:00 pm, Lynn Hadfield will present “Tanzanian Safari: Close Encounters with Wildebeest, Lions and Elephants.” Lynn and her husband report that every year, millions of wildebeest accompanied by hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, make the annual migration in the Serengeti. They had a close up view of the migration which included coming across elephants, big cats, giraffes and more. The trip included visits to several cultural groups including the Maasai and the Hadzabe, one of the last remaining hunter/gatherer tribes. In a power-point presentation, Lynn will take you on an unforgettable safari.

On Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at 2:00 pm, Sue Harnett will present “Bella Coola: More than Grizzly Bears and Totem Poles.” She went in September, the best time to see the bears fishing for salmon, and was impressed with some stunning scenery – the colours were beautiful. She was also fascinated by the art, culture and history of the Nuxalk people. Art is all around the school and the community and this rich culture creates a positive vibe. She visited carvers and had a tour of the 5000 year old petroglyphs. Sue will help you see Bella Coola through new eyes.

On Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, at 2:00 pm, Wayne Emde will present “Ports of Call while Cruising.” For a two year period, Wayne worked on cruise ships, teaching basic Photoshop Elements to the guests on Celebrity’s Galaxy and Oceania’s Regatta. During his assignments, he sailed from Panama to Istanbul, stopping at ports along the way. “We owe a lot to seaports,” says Emde. “They were a source of wealth and power and ships launched from them explored the world, bringing back not only gold and jewels, but also spices and whale oil and tons of seafood. Ports are some of the oldest cities in the world and their architecture attracts millions of visitors each year. Follow Wayne as he sails the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and the Sea of Japan and wanders the streets of the ports where the ships dock or anchor, shooting his excellent photographs.

These three new travelogues provide for a Canadian destination (Bella Coola is a ten-hour drive from Vernon) as well as overseas exotic experiences. Something for everyone!
